Best Sandals Resort in Jamaica

Best Sandals Resort in Jamaica: All 7 Ranked + Rated for 2026

Last Updated on March 18, 2026

Choosing the best Sandals resort in Jamaica is harder than it sounds — not because the resorts are bad, but because there are seven of them, and each one does something different really well.

Jamaica was where Sandals started, and it’s still home to the brand’s most diverse lineup: a boutique all-butler hideaway, a flagship beachfront resort steps from the airport, a secluded nature reserve with overwater bungalows, a massive complex with 105 pools and 16 restaurants, and everything in between. The good news is that with Sandals’ luxury-included model, you can’t really go wrong. The real question is which one fits your trip.

Whether you’re a honeymooner after overwater bungalows, a beach lover eyeing Seven Mile Beach, a foodie who wants 16 restaurants on property, or someone who just wants to get off the plane and be poolside in 15 minutes — there’s a Jamaica Sandals built for that.

I’ve ranked all seven resorts based on guest ratings, awards, amenities, and value to help you cut through the noise and book with confidence.

Note that Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, and Sandals South Coast are currently closed for renovations and will reopen later in 2026 (November 18 for South Coast and December 18 for Montego Bay and Royal Caribbean) . All others are currently open now.

Sandals Dunn’s River is the newest Jamaica Sandals and, for many guests, the best. Opened in May 2023 after a $230 million top-to-bottom transformation, it’s what Adam Stewart calls “Sandals 2.0,” a blueprint for the next generation of the brand. The resort sits on a lush 25-acre estate along the north coast of Jamaica, where five pools flow like the namesake falls just down the road.

Guest reviews consistently cite the service as exceptional, even by Sandals standards. The entertainment team is a frequent highlight, from morning live music sets to silent discos and nightly shows. The fitness center runs 24 hours, and the resort offers a complimentary photoshoot during your stay (photos are available to purchase). A newly unveiled 8,000 sq ft conference center, the Louis Grant Conference Center, also makes this the best Jamaica Sandals for groups and incentive travel.

The exchange program here is particularly strong: guests get full access to neighboring Sandals Ochi, adding 16 more restaurants, 105 pools, and 11 bars to an already impressive lineup.

One thing to note: poolside chairs can fill up during busy periods, so early risers get the best spots. And while the music and entertainment energy are beloved by most guests, it’s worth knowing the resort leans lively rather than quiet.

Sandals Dunn’s River Amenities

  • Five pools including two river pools and a zero-entry pool, plus a swim-up bar
  • Jamaica’s first SkyPool Suites with elevated private infinity pools overlooking the sea
  • Rooftop stargazing experience at the Coyaba Sky Rondoval Villas, complete with telescope and constellation guide
  • Complimentary photoshoot during your stay
  • 24-hour fitness center with group classes and personal training
  • Watersports including PADI-certified scuba, kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and windsurfing
  • Free green fees and transfers to the 18-hole Upton Estate Golf & Country Club
  • Stay at 1, Play at 2: full exchange privileges at Sandals Ochi
  • Louis Grant Conference Center — 8,000 sq ft meetings facility, ideal for groups

  • Coyaba Sky Rondoval Villas: rooftop terrace with stargazing, swim-up pool, and personal butler service — the crown jewel of the resort
  • Tufa Terrace One Bedroom Skypool Butler Suites: private infinity pool and Tranquility Soaking Tub for two on your balcony
  • Tufa Terrace Swim-Up One Bedroom Butler Suites: ocean views, zero-entry swim-up pool access, and Tranquility Soaking Tub for two

Restaurants and Bars at Sandals Dunn’s River

12 restaurants and 9 bars make this one of the strongest dining lineups in Jamaica relative to the resort’s size. Highlights include:

  • L’Amande: French and Jamaican fine dining — one of the most praised restaurants on property
  • Edessa: Greek cuisine, a concept unique to Dunn’s River in the Sandals portfolio
  • Banyu: Asian fusion
  • Zuka: South and Central American flavors
  • Galene Seaside Grill: Fresh Jamaican seafood and daily catch
  • Dunn’s Rum Club: Jamaican craft cocktails, bar snacks, and small bites — a guest favorite
  • The Jerk Shack: Authentic Jamaican jerk, best at lunch
  • Blum: Artisan coffee and island-inspired treats
  • Hanami: Fresh sushi

Sandals Dunn’s River Is Best For

  • Honeymooners and couples seeking a modern, romantic setting with exceptional service and room options from swim-up suites to sky villas
  • First-time Sandals guests who want the most current, updated version of the brand
  • Active travelers drawn to watersports, nearby Dunn’s River Falls, the Blue Hole, and other Ocho Rios excursions
  • Foodies who want 12 on-property restaurants plus access to 16 more at Ochi
  • Groups with the new Louis Grant Conference Center on site

2. Sandals Royal Plantation | Best-Rated Sandals in Jamaica + Best for Boutique Luxury With All Butler Suites

Sandals Royal Plantation - best Sandals in Jamaica

TripAdvisor Rating: 4.7 | Google: 4.7 | Expedia: 9.4

Awards: 2025 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best | Caribbean Travel Awards: Curaçao’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort 2025 & 2024, Caribbean’s Leading Dive Resort 2025

Hotel class: 5-stars | AAA Four Diamond Resort

    • Location: Ocho Rios, Jamaica
    • Nearest airport: Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
    • Airport transfers: Included, approximately 90-120 minutes
    • Top ratings for: Personalized butler service, Exclusive and quiet ambiance, Gourmet dining experience
    • Atmosphere: Intimate, relaxing, tranquil
    • Type of beach: 2 private coves
    • Restaurants: 5 restaurants and 2 bars; no swim-up bar
    • Pools: 2 pools, 1 whirlpool
    • Rooms: 74 rooms and suites
    • Watersports and activities: Snorkeling, PADI-certified scuba diving, kayaking, paddleboarding, Hobie Cats, glass-bottom boat, tennis, pickleball, golf at Upton Estate Golf & Country Club (green fees and transfers included), fitness center, and exchange access to Sandals Ochi via complimentary hourly shuttle

Perched on a coral bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Sandals Royal Plantation is the most intimate resort in the Jamaica lineup and consistently earns the highest service ratings of any Sandals property worldwide. With just 74 rooms, all of which include butler service, it delivers a level of personalization that larger resorts simply can’t match. Plus, all rooms have ocean views.

This is the only Sandals resort where butler service is standard in every single room category, not an upgrade. The resort also features Jamaica’s only caviar and Champagne bar, over-the-water hammocks on the beach, and round-trip transfers and green fees at nearby Upton Estate Golf and Country Club.

The tradeoffs are real and worth knowing: two pools and two bars are modest compared to the rest of the Jamaica lineup, and the beach, while beautiful and private, is smaller than at other resorts. Guests seeking nightlife, watersports variety, or a lively pool scene will be better served elsewhere. But for couples who want to feel genuinely looked after in a quiet, refined setting, Royal Plantation sits in a category of its own.

Exchange privileges at Sandals Ochi give guests access to 16 restaurants, 105 pools, and a much livelier atmosphere whenever they want it, with complimentary transfers included. It’s one of the best pairing options in the entire Sandals portfolio with a boutique home base and mega-resort day trips. Note that the exchange privileges are one-way: Royal Plantation guests can visit Ochi, but Ochi guests do not have the same access to Royal Plantation.

Sandals Royal Plantation Amenities

  • All-butler resort: every room includes Butler Elite service, the only Sandals property where this is standard
  • Jamaica’s only caviar and Champagne bar
  • Two private cove beaches with beach butler service and over-the-water hammocks
  • Glass bottom boat and non-motorized watersports including snorkeling, SCUBA, kayaking, windsurfing, aquatrikes, Hobie Cats, and paddleboards
  • Free green fees and round-trip transfers to Upton Estate Golf and Country Club
  • Exchange privileges at Sandals Ochi with complimentary shuttle
  • Option to book the 3-bedroom Villa Plantana with full villa staff: ideal for a group of friends or an adult family vacation

Room Types to Consider

  • Villa Plantana: bookable as a one, two, or three-bedroom villa with full villa staff and 24-hour butler service
  • Governor General Oceanfront One Bedroom Butler Suite: two walkout balconies, Love Nest luxury, and 24-hour in-room dining
  • Regent Oceanfront Butler Suites: the most accessible entry point at Royal Plantation, with ocean views and full butler service included

Restaurants and Bars at Sandals Royal Plantation

Five restaurants and two bars keep the focus on quality over quantity, and the dining here is consistently rated among the best in the Sandals portfolio:

  • Royal Grill: Beachside snacks and grilled specialties
  • Le Papillon: French fine dining in a refined setting, widely regarded as one of the best restaurants across all Sandals resorts
  • The Terrace: Caribbean specialties served on a terrace overlooking the sea
  • The Tea Terrace: Al fresco international dining with views
  • The Wobbly Peacock Pub: Traditional British fare in an English-style pub setting

The resort also features two bars serving unlimited premium liquors and Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wines.

With its all-butler service and boutique size, Sandals Royal Plantation is particularly ideal for:

  • Couples and honeymooners seeking a quiet, romantic boutique experience where the service does the heavy lifting
  • Golf enthusiasts with unlimited green fees and transfers to Upton Estate
  • Guests who want true butler service without paying a premium upgrade: it comes standard here in every room
  • Discerning diners who prioritize quality and intimacy over variety
  • Groups traveling together who want a private villa with full staff
  • Travelers who want the best of both worlds: quiet home base at Royal Plantation, lively days at Ochi via exchange privileges

3. Sandals South Coast | Best Sandals in Jamaica for Overwater Bungalows + Secluded Setting

Sandals South Coast - Jamaica

TripAdvisor Rating: 4.5 | Google: 4.5 | Expedia: 8.6

Awards: TripAdvisor 2025 Traveler’s Choice | World Travel Awards Caribbean’s Most Romantic Resort 2025

Hotel class: 5-stars | AAA Four Diamond Resort

    • Location: White House, Jamaica
    • Nearest airport: Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
    • Airport transfers: Included, approximately 75 minutes
    • Top ratings for: Pristine beaches, Varied dining options, Luxurious accommodations including overwater bungalows
    • Atmosphere: Relaxed, Romantic, and Secluded
    • Type of beach: Long, pristine, white-sand beach
    • Restaurants: 9 restaurants and 7 bars, including a swim-up bar
    • Pools: 4 pools, 4 whirlpools
    • Rooms: 372 rooms and suites
    • Included activities: PADI-Certified SCUBA diving, waterskiing, tubing, wakeboarding, Hobie Cats, paddleboards, kayaks, tennis and land sports, pickleball, fitness center, daytime and nighttime entertainment

⚠️ Temporary Closure Notice: Sandals South Coast is currently closed following Hurricane Melissa and will reopen November 18, 2016. Rather than a simple repair, Sandals has chosen to use this time for a complete renovation and redesign of the property. Details on what’s changing are still emerging, but the resort is being rebuilt to Sandals 2.0 standards. Bookings are open for travel after November 18 — and this is worth noting: prices are very likely to increase once the renovated resort reopens and new amenities are unveiled. Locking in a booking now at current rates is a smart move for anyone already planning a trip.

Tucked within a 500-acre nature reserve on Jamaica’s quieter South Coast, Sandals South Coast has always been one of the most distinctive resorts in the lineup: all-beachfront, all-oceanview, and set along a two-mile stretch of white-sand beach that feels genuinely removed from the rest of the island.

The resort’s signature features have long set it apart: Jamaica’s largest zero-entry pool, the Caribbean’s longest river pool, swim-up rondoval suites, overwater bungalows, and an over-the-water wedding chapel. The combination of dramatic pool infrastructure and secluded natural surroundings makes it one of the most photographed Sandals properties in the Caribbean.

An honest note about the tradeoffs: the drive from Sangster Airport takes about two hours on winding roads, which some guests find long. The beachfront also has some seagrass in areas, which is worth knowing if a pristine swim beach is your top priority. For those, Sandals Sandals Negril or Royal Caribbean’s private island may be a better fit.

When it reopens in November 2026 after its full redesign, South Coast is expected to be one of the most transformed properties in the Jamaica portfolio. Given how the Sandals 2.0 renovation at Dunn’s River was received, expectations are high.

Sandals South Coast Amenities

  • Overwater bungalows with butler service, glass floor panels, over-the-water hammocks, and outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tubs
  • Swim-up rondoval suites with private plunge pools and zero-entry river pool access
  • Jamaica’s largest zero-entry pool and the Caribbean’s longest river pool spanning over 17,000 square feet
  • Over-the-water wedding chapel with panoramic ocean views and a glass aisle
  • Latitudes Overwater Bar: cocktails over the Caribbean Sea
  • Watersports including PADI-certified scuba, waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, Hobie Cats, paddleboards, and kayaks
  • Pickleball courts
  • Nightly entertainment including live bands and fire dancers
  • Set within a 500-acre nature reserve: one of the most naturally beautiful resort settings in Jamaica

Room Types to Consider

  • Over the Water Butler Honeymoon Bungalow: the signature South Coast experience, with butler service, glass floors, and a private deck over the water
  • South Seas Swim-Up Rondoval Butler Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary: private plunge pool plus direct access to the Caribbean’s longest river pool
  • Dutch Beachfront Swim-Up Club Level Junior Suite with Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub: one of the most accessible swim-up options in the Jamaica lineup, with Club Level access included
  • Italian Beachfront Club Level Honeymoon Suite with Tranquility Soaking Tub: beachfront Club Level access at one of the more accessible price points

Restaurants and Bars at Sandals South Coast

Nine restaurants and seven bars, including the signature Latitudes Overwater Bar and a swim-up bar:

  • Giuseppe’s: Classic Italian in a warm setting
  • Sushi on the Sand: Sushi and sashimi at the water’s edge
  • Jasmine’s: Pan-Asian cuisine in a dramatic setting
  • Eleanor’s: Authentic West Indian and Caribbean dishes
  • Schooners: Caribbean seafood with beach views
  • Cafe de Paris: Parisian-style patisserie with pastries, crêpes, coffee, and tea
  • The Jerk Shack: Traditional Jamaican jerk barbecue
Sandals South Coast - overwater bungalows Jamaica -

Sandals South Coast Is Best For

With its tranquil setting and luxurious accommodations, Sandals South Coast is the perfect choice for:

  • Couples and honeymooners drawn to overwater bungalows and rondoval suites in a genuinely secluded setting
  • Wedding parties looking for an over-the-water chapel with a glass aisle
  • Nature lovers who want a resort set within a nature reserve rather than a busy resort strip
  • Pool and waterway enthusiasts: the zero-entry pool and Caribbean’s longest river pool are hard to beat
  • Travelers willing to book early: with a full Sandals 2.0 renovation underway, rates now are likely to be the lowest this resort sees for years

4. Sandals Montego Bay | Best Sandals Jamaica for Watersports, Nightlife + First-Time Sandals Travelers

Sandals Montego Bay - best Sandals in Jamaica

Hotel class: 5-stars | AAA Four Diamond Resort

  • Location: Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Nearest airport: Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
  • Airport transfers: Included, approximately 5-10 minutes
  • Top ratings for: Fun nightlife, Beachfront accommodations, Variety of water sports
  • Atmosphere: Active, social
  • Type of beach: Cove
  • Restaurants: 12 restaurants and 6 bars, including a swim-up bar

  • Included activities: PADI-Certified SCUBA diving, waterskiing, tubing, wakeboarding, Hobie Cats, paddleboards, kayaks, tennis and land sports, snorkeling, tennis, fitness center, daytime and nighttime entertainment

⚠️ Temporary Closure Notice: Sandals Montego Bay is currently closed following Hurricane Melissa and will reopen December 18, 2026. Sandals is investing in a $120 million across Montego Bay and Royal Caribbean combined to fully transform both into Sandals 2.0 properties. For Montego Bay specifically, confirmed upgrades include a beach club atmosphere redesign, new pool additions, 100 new rooms, pool suites, a new rondoval village, and overwater villas. This is not a patch job: according to CEO Adam Stewart, the goal is to reinvent these resorts from top to bottom. Bookings are open for travel after Dec. 18, 2026. Prices are very likely to increase once the renovated resort reopens and new amenities are unveiled, so locking in a booking now at current rates is worth considering for anyone already planning a trip.

Sandals Montego Bay is where it all started. The original Sandals resort, opened in 1981, sits on the largest private white-sand beach in Jamaica just 15 minutes from Sangster International Airport — the shortest transfer of any Jamaica Sandals. That combination of iconic status, lively atmosphere, and sheer convenience has made it one of the most consistently requested properties in the portfolio.

The resort earns its reputation for nightlife: beach parties, bonfire dances, live reggae bands, and entertainment productions run nightly, and the energy here is noticeably higher than at other Jamaica Sandals.

The overwater Latitudes Bar is a guest favorite at sunset, and the exchange privileges with next-door Sandals Royal Caribbean give guests access to a private island, 9 more restaurants, and 8 more pools via a quick 5-minute transfer. Combined, the two resorts offer 21 restaurants, 14 pools, 11 bars, and 8 whirlpools — effectively a mega-resort experience.

When it reopens in December 2026 as a fully reimagined Sandals 2.0 property, Montego Bay is expected to be one of the most transformed resorts in Jamaica. For a resort that has always punched above its weight on atmosphere and location, the upgrade could make it genuinely hard to beat.

Sandals Montego Bay Amenities

  • Largest private white-sand beach in Jamaica with calm waters ideal for swimming and watersports
  • Watersports including PADI-certified scuba, waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, Hobie Cats, paddleboards, and kayaks
  • Latitudes Overwater Bar for sunset cocktails over the Caribbean
  • Over-the-water wedding chapel with glass aisle and panoramic ocean views
  • 7 pools including a swim-up bar pool, plus 2 whirlpools
  • Exchange privileges at Sandals Royal Caribbean with complimentary 5-minute transfers: access to a private island, 9 additional restaurants, and 8 more pools
  • Nightly entertainment including beach parties, bonfire dances, and live reggae
  • Select Butler suites include round-trip Private BMW Luxury Airport Transfers

Pro Tip: Exchange privileges at Sandals Montego Bay and Royal Caribbean essentially give you access to a mega-resort: 21 restaurants, 14 pools, 11 bars, 8 whirlpools, and 1 private island – with round-trip transfers included!

Room Types to Consider

  • Beachfront Swim-Up Millionaire One Bedroom Butler Suite: private swim-up pool, Tranquility Soaking Tub for two, Butler Elite service, 24-hour in-room dining, and Private BMW Airport Transfers
  • Beachfront Swim-Up Honeymoon One Bedroom Butler Suite: oceanfront swim-up access, Tranquility Soaking Tub, Butler Elite service, and Private BMW Airport Transfers
  • Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up Club Elite Luxury Room: the most accessible swim-up option at the resort, with Club Level concierge access, Tranquility Soaking Tub, and Private BMW Airport Transfers
Sandals Montego Bay suite

Restaurants and Bars at Sandals Montego Bay

12 restaurants and 6 bars, plus full exchange access to 9 more restaurants at Royal Caribbean:

  • Bayside Restaurant: buffet breakfast and lunch, plus al fresco French Brasserie for dinner
  • Butch’s Steak and Seafood: named for Sandals founder Gordon “Butch” Stewart, this is the resort’s signature dining experience
  • Tokyo Joe’s: beachfront Asian and Caribbean flavors
  • Cucina Romana: Italian cuisine with Caribbean Sea views
  • Oleander: upscale Jamaican cuisine in an intimate setting
  • The Jerk Shack: traditional Jamaican jerk barbecue
  • Soy Sushi Bar: made-to-order sushi

Sandals Montego Bay Is Best For

  • Nightlife lovers: the best nightly entertainment of any Jamaica Sandals, consistently
  • First-time Sandals travelers: the flagship resort, the iconic beach, and the shortest airport transfer make this an ideal introduction to the brand
  • Convenience seekers: 15 minutes from the airport means more time at the resort, especially valuable for shorter trips
  • Couples and honeymooners who want a lively, social atmosphere alongside beachfront romance
  • Mega-resort experience seekers: exchange privileges with Royal Caribbean give access to one of the most impressive combined resort offerings in the Caribbean
  • Travelers planning ahead: with a full Sandals 2.0 redesign underway, current rates are likely the lowest this resort will see post-renovation

Awards: 2025 TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice

5-star, AAA Four Diamond Resort

  • Location: Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Nearest airport: Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
  • Airport transfers: Included, approximately 5-10 minutes

  • Pools: 8 pools, 6 whirlpools
  • Rooms: 280 rooms and suites
  • Activities: PADI-Certified SCUBA diving, snorkeling, kayaks, paddleboards, Hobie Cats, tennis, beach volleyball, croquet, fitness center

⚠️ Temporary Closure Notice: Sandals Royal Caribbean is currently closed following Hurricane Melissa and will reopen December 18, 2026. Along with Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals is investing over $120 million combined across both properties to transform them into fully reimagined Sandals 2.0 resorts. Royal Caribbean specifically is getting a top-to-bottom aesthetic overhaul modeled on the modern design language introduced at Sandals Dunn’s River. Ground floor rooms sustained significant storm damage, which is being fully restored and upgraded in the process. Bookings are open for travel after Dec. 18, 2026. Prices are very likely to increase once the renovated resort reopens, so locking in a booking now at current rates is worth considering for anyone already planning a trip.

Sandals Royal Caribbean offers something no other Jamaica resort can match: a private offshore island, accessible by boat, that belongs entirely to the resort. That island is where you’ll find a Balinese-style pool with swim-up bar, a Red Lane Spa, an authentic Thai restaurant, secluded beach cabanas, and a private clothing-optional beach. It’s a genuinely different experience from the main resort, and the ferry ride over is part of the charm.

Back on the main property, the resort blends British colonial architecture with tropical Caribbean surroundings. The overwater bungalows here are consistently rated among the best in the entire Sandals portfolio, arranged in a heart shape over the water on the private island and offering butler service, glass floor panels, extended sun decks, and outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tubs. Guest reviews repeatedly highlight the dining as exceptional, particularly Royal Thai on the island and Bombay Club for Indian cuisine.

The resort is more intimate and relaxed than neighboring Montego Bay, which suits many guests perfectly. Those looking for nightlife and a livelier scene are better served next door — but with exchange privileges at Montego Bay included, and a 5-minute complimentary transfer between the two, guests get the best of both worlds. Combined, the two resorts offer 21 restaurants, 14 pools, 11 bars, 8 whirlpools, and 1 private island.

When it reopens as a Sandals 2.0 property in December 2026, Royal Caribbean is expected to feel like a significantly more modern resort while retaining the private island and overwater bungalow features that have always made it special.

Sandals Royal Caribbean Amenities

  • Private offshore island with Balinese-style pool, swim-up bar, Red Lane Spa, Thai restaurant, beach cabanas, and clothing-optional beach: accessed by complimentary ferry
  • Overwater bungalows arranged in a heart shape over the water, with butler service, glass floor panels, and Tranquility Soaking Tubs
  • 8 pools and 6 whirlpools including the private island pool
  • Watersports including PADI-certified scuba, snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboards, Hobie Cats, and sailing
  • Exchange privileges at Sandals Montego Bay with complimentary 5-minute transfers: 21 combined restaurants, 14 pools, 11 bars

6. Sandals Negril | Best Sandals Jamaica for Beach Lovers + West-Facing Sunsets

Sandals Negril - best Sandals in Jamaica

TripAdvisor Rating: 4.5 | Google: 4.5 | Expedia: 8.4

World Travel Awards: Jamaica’s Leading Adult-Only All-Inclusive Resort 2025

Hotel class: 5-stars | AAA Four Diamond Resort

  • Location: Negril, Jamaica
  • Nearest airport: Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
  • Airport transfers: Included, approximately 60-90 minutes
  • Top ratings for: Scenic beach, Friendly service, Fun atmosphere
  • Atmosphere: Active, relaxed
  • Type of beach: Long, pristine, seven-mile stretch of white-sand beach
  • Restaurants: 8 restaurants and 5 bars, including 2 swim-up bars
  • Pools: 4 pools, 3 whirlpools
  • Rooms: 226 rooms and suites
  • Activities: PADI-Certified SCUBA diving, waterskiing, wakeboarding, Hobie Cats, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling, glass-bottom boat, tennis, croquet and land sports, fitness center and entertainment

Sandals Negril is the most beach-forward resort in the Jamaica portfolio. The property sits unusually close to the water’s edge on the widest part of Seven Mile Beach, and the entire layout is oriented toward the Caribbean: low-rise buildings, open sightlines, and main paths that run parallel to the shore. You rarely lose the beach here. Most days unfold at water level, without shoes or schedules getting in the way.

The resort is smaller and more casual than Montego Bay or Dunn’s River, and that’s deliberate. Guests who love it tend to love it precisely because it doesn’t feel like a mega-resort: it’s compact enough to navigate barefoot in a few minutes, the staff is consistently praised as some of the warmest in Jamaica, and the pace slows down in a way that larger properties can’t quite replicate. The newly added Bamboo Grove building has elevated the room lineup significantly, with rooftop Skypool Butler Suites and swim-up suites that have quickly become some of the most in-demand rooms in the Jamaica portfolio.

One honest tradeoff: the pools here are smaller than at other Jamaica Sandals, and the beach is not private — vendors do pass through, though most guests report they don’t intrude much. Exchange privileges with adjacent Beaches Negril add two more restaurants and a different beach vibe, which is a useful option for a change of pace.

The west-facing location is a genuine selling point. Sunsets here are consistently described by guests as among the best in all of Jamaica — and they’re visible from the beach, the restaurants, and most rooms.

Sandals Negril Amenities

  • Seven Mile Beach access on the widest, most unobstructed stretch of Jamaica’s most famous beach
  • West-facing orientation for legendary Caribbean sunsets visible from the beach, restaurants, and most rooms
  • Bamboo Grove building with Skypool Butler Suites (private rooftop infinity pools + rooftop terraces) and swim-up suites: among the most sought-after rooms in Jamaica
  • Multiple pool areas including Crystal Lagoon lazy river pool, main pool with swim-up bar, Piano Bar pool, and private pools in butler suites
  • Watersports including PADI-certified scuba, waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, aquatrikes, windsurfing, paddleboards, kayaks, Hobie Cats, and glass-bottom boat
  • Exchange privileges at Beaches Negril for additional dining including Yuka Peruvian restaurant and Soy sushi bar
  • Red Lane Spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, and SCUBA certification pool (3-hour open water certification available during stay)
  • Nightly entertainment including beach parties, themed shows, and live music

Room Types to Consider

  • Bamboo Grove One-Bedroom Skypool Butler Suite: the standout room at the resort — private rooftop infinity pool, separate living and dining area, rooftop terrace, and full Butler Elite service with 24-hour in-room dining
  • Beachfront Swim-Up Honeymoon Butler Suite: steps from Seven Mile Beach with direct Crystal Lagoon pool access, Tranquility Soaking Tub, and Butler Elite service
  • Caribbean Beachfront Walkout Club Level Room: the most accessible beachfront room at the resort, with Club Level concierge access, private patio steps from the sand, and Tranquility Soaking Tub

Restaurants and Bars at Sandals Negril

8 restaurants and 5 bars, with a noticeably casual, beach-focused feel:

  • Barefoot by the Sea: open-air beachfront dining, the top-rated breakfast spot at the resort and a consistent guest favorite

  • Crema Coffee Lounge: espresso bar and light bites

7. Sandals Ochi | Best Sandals Jamaica Resort for Affordable Luxury + Nightlife

Sandals Ochi

TripAdvisor Rating: 4.3 | Google: 4.3 | Expedia: 8.0

Hotel class: 5-star, AAA Four Diamond Resort

  • Location: Ocho Rios, Jamaica
  • Nearest airport: Sangster International Airport (MBJ) or Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ)
  • Airport transfers: Included; approximately 90 minutes from MBJ or 15 minutes from OCJ (limited flights)
  • Top ratings for: Dining variety, value, butler village villas, activities range
  • Atmosphere: Two-sided: lively beach club on one end, secluded hillside butler village on the other Type of beach: Private white-sand beach with calm turquoise water
  • Restaurants: 16 restaurants and 7 bars
  • Pools: 105 pools, 22 whirlpools
  • Rooms: 519 rooms — the largest resort in the entire Sandals portfolio
  • Activities: PADI-Certified SCUBA diving, snorkeling, Hobie cats, paddleboarding, kayaks, glass bottom boat, tennis, fitness center, golf, entertainment

Sandals Ochi is the biggest resort in the Sandals lineup, and it earns its ranking as the best value in Jamaica. With 16 restaurants, 7 bars, a hidden speakeasy, a 100-acre footprint, a hillside butler village, complimentary golf at the adjacent Upton Estate championship course, and exchange privileges with next-door Sandals Dunn’s River, the sheer scale of what’s included here is genuinely hard to match anywhere in the portfolio.

The resort has a split personality that works in its favor. The Ochi Beach Club side delivers beachfront pools, swim-up bars, high-energy entertainment, and constant activity. The Hillside Butler Village on the other end is quiet, secluded, and private — with garden villa suites, private pool sanctuaries, and butler service that feels completely removed from the buzz below. Guests who pick the right side for their preferences tend to love it here. Those who don’t often feel the resort is too spread out.

That size is the an honest caveat worth naming: getting between the hillside and the beach requires the resort’s HOP shuttle system, which some guests find convenient and others find slow. The beach is on the smaller side compared to other Jamaica Sandals, but the dining variety means you could eat somewhere different every meal for a full week and still not repeat.

Sandals Ochi Amenities

  • 16 restaurants, 11 bars, and a food truck, the most dining options of any resort in the Sandals Jamaica portfolio
  • Hidden speakeasy bar, the first of its kind in the Caribbean, with a retro-chic atmosphere and Caribbean cocktail program; ask around to find it
  • Complimentary golf at Upton Estate Golf & Country Club: an 18-hole championship course with complimentary transfers and greens fees included
  • Exchange privileges at Sandals Dunn’s River: access to Jamaica’s newest, most modern resort next door
  • Hillside Butler Village with private pool villa suites: some of the most spacious and secluded butler accommodations in Jamaica, starting at a more accessible price point than comparable rooms at other properties
  • 105 pools total: 7 shared pools (including the Great House Pool, Ochi Beach Club pool, Riviera pool, and swim-up bars) plus 98 private villa pools, and 22 whirlpools. More pools than any other resort in the Sandals portfolio.
  • Watersports including PADI-certified scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, paddleboards, and Hobie Cats
  • Two Red Lane Spa complexes across the property, plus pickleball and tennis courts with complimentary instruction
  • HOP shuttle system connecting the beach club side with the hillside and butler village

Room Types to Consider

  • Romeo and Juliet One-Bedroom Butler Villa Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary: the standout room at Sandals Ochi — a fully private freestanding villa with a private pool, lush garden surroundings, full butler service, and 24-hour in-room dining. One of the most affordable high-end butler villa suites in the portfolio.
  • Riviera Oceanfront One-Bedroom Butler Suite: panoramic Caribbean views from a beachside butler suite — the best of both worlds for guests who want butler service without sacrificing beach access
  • Poolside Club Level Villa Room: the best entry point into the hillside villa experience, with Club Level concierge access and a tranquil garden setting at a very accessible price
Sandals Ochi restaurant

Restaurants and Bars at Sandals Ochi

16 restaurants and 7 bars — the most of any Jamaica Sandals:

  • Kelly’s by the Sea: signature beachfront Caribbean dining; the jerk-spiced lobster is a consistent guest highlight
  • Kimono’s: Japanese teppanyaki with tableside cooking
  • Café de Paris: French bistro-style dining and pastries
  • Jerk Shack: traditional Jamaican barbecue, a reliable lunch stop
  • Neptune’s: casual beachside dining and snacks
  • The Southern Table: Southern comfort food
  • The Speakeasy: hidden cocktail bar with Caribbean craft cocktails and live entertainment, one of the most talked-about spots in the resort
  • Plus 9 additional restaurants ranging from Italian to Jamaican to international buffet

Sandals Ochi Is Best For

  • Value seekers: the most included amenities per dollar of any Jamaica Sandals — 16 restaurants, complimentary golf, two resort exchanges, and one of the most affordable butler villa lineups in the portfolio
  • Guests who want two resort experiences in one: exchange privileges with Sandals Dunn’s River mean access to Jamaica’s newest and most modern property right next door
  • Private villa lovers: the Hillside Butler Village offers genuine seclusion and some of the most spacious suite categories in Jamaica
  • Food enthusiasts: 16 restaurants means you can eat somewhere different every meal for a full week and still not repeat
  • Active travelers: scuba, snorkeling, tennis, pickleball, golf, and outings
  • Couples who want options, not crowds: the resort is large, but the two-sided layout means guests can find their preferred atmosphere and mostly stay in it

Room Categories at Sandals Jamaica Resorts

All rooms and suites at Sandals are divided into three room categories: Sandals Luxury, Club Level, and Butler Elite Level. In short, Sandals Luxury are Sandals’ entry-level rooms, Club Level rooms offer room service and Butler Elite suites come with personalized butler service.

Sandals Luxury

The Luxury category appeals to many guests because it makes it possible to enjoy all the inclusions Sandals is known for, without spending more than necessary. This category is ideal for active couples that plan to spend most of their time outside of their suite. In the Luxury level suites at Sandals, romance meets relaxation in the best way possible.

Luxury Level rooms include free to use minibar with juice, soda, water, Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks® wine and local beer replenished upon request.

Club Level

Club Level rooms are slightly more luxurious than Luxury Level rooms and come with free room service from 7 AM until 10 PM. This is one of the main reasons guests are willing to upgrade from a Luxury level suite.

Sandals’ room service gives you the opportunity to order breakfast on bed, and to have lunch and dinner delivered to your suite.

Club Level guests will also be met on arrival by Club Sandals Concierge for a private check-in at the Club Sandals Lounge.

In addition, you’ll have access to the Club Sandals lounge. The lounge includes a high-definition flat-screen TV, board games, books, a tea and coffee station and all-day snacks and pastries.

Butler Elite

The Butler Elite suites are the most luxurious suites at Sandals with the most breathtaking views. This category of accommodation takes service and luxury to a whole new level as it includes a professionally trained personal butler.

Butler suites at Sandals offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience, ideal for that special occasion!

If you choose to stay in a suite of this category, you can expect that your butler will greet you on arrival with welcome cocktails or champagne. Your butler will escort you to your suite and help you check-in from the comfort of your suite.

Once you’re checked in, you’ll get a personal cell phone to reach your butler whenever you need assistance.

Butlers can even serve you lunch, dinner, your favorite cocktails, and champagne — on the beach, at the poolside, or in your suite.

Butler suites boast a fully stocked bar — free to use — with juice, soda, water, sparkling wine, Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks® wine, local beer and your selection of premium liquors, replenished upon request.

Which Sandals Resort in Jamaica is the quietest?

With just 74 suites, Sandals Royal Plantation is the most intimate and peaceful of the Jamaica properties. Every room comes with butler service, making it the top choice for couples who want a personalized boutique experience without the scale of a larger resort.

Which Sandals Jamaica resorts are currently closed?

Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, and Sandals South Coast are temporarily closed following Hurricane Melissa and are scheduled to reopen May 30, 2026. All three are being transformed into Sandals 2.0 properties as part of a major renovation. The remaining four Jamaica resorts — Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Royal Plantation, Sandals Negril, and Sandals Ochi — are open and welcoming guests.

Which Sandals in Jamaica has overwater bungalows?

Sandals South Coast and Sandals Royal Caribbean are the two Jamaica resorts with overwater bungalows. At Royal Caribbean, the bungalows are arranged in a heart shape over the water on the resort’s private offshore island, and some include private infinity pools. At South Coast, the overwater bungalows sit above a calm lagoon and are among the most popular room categories in the entire Sandals portfolio. Note that both resorts are currently closed for renovation and will reopen May 30, 2026.

It depends on what kind of honeymoon experience you’re looking for. For overwater bungalows and a private island, Sandals Royal Caribbean is hard to beat. For the most secluded and intimate butler experience, Sandals Royal Plantation stands apart. For a combination of romance and stunning modern design, Sandals Dunn’s River is the newest and most design-forward option. For dramatic sunset views and a laid-back beach vibe, Sandals Negril on Seven Mile Beach is a consistent honeymooner favorite.

What is the best way to get a deal on Sandals?

There are several ways to save on a Sandals vacation. Book well in advance for the best room selection and early booking rates. Or go the opposite direction: Sandals Last-Minute Deals within 30 days of travel can offer significant savings if your schedule is flexible. Watch for the weekly 7-7-7 Deals — 7 qualifying rooms at an additional 7% off for 7 days, refreshed each Wednesday. Look for stay X nights, get 1 free promotions, which offer especially strong value in higher room categories. Travel within 30 days of your wedding anniversary and register your booking to receive a free anniversary night (minimum 7-night stay in Club or Butler level required). Service personnel including military, firefighters, police, and FEMA receive an additional 10% discount. Finally, visit the loyalty desk onsite to book a return trip at a 10-12% discount, or earn points through the Sandals Select Rewards program. Always check Sandals.com directly for current promotions before booking.

Which Sandals in Jamaica is the best?

My personal top pick is Sandals Dunn’s River — Jamaica’s newest resort, with stunning modern design, a $230M renovation, and a location near some of the island’s best natural attractions. But the honest answer is that the best Sandals in Jamaica depends entirely on what you’re looking for. Sandals Negril wins for beach lovers. Sandals Royal Plantation wins for intimacy and service. Sandals Ochi wins for value and variety. Sandals Royal Caribbean wins for overwater bungalows and a private island. And when Sandals Montego Bay, Royal Caribbean, and South Coast reopen in late 2026 as fully redesigned Sandals 2.0 properties, this ranking may well look different. Whatever you prioritize, there’s a Jamaica Sandals built for it.

What is the best way to get a deal on Sandals?

  • Book well in advance to score the best deal on a Sandals Vacation.
  • Or book last minute. If your vacation time is flexible or if you can travel on short notice, some of the best ways to find a low price are by booking a Sandals Last-Minute Deal within 30 days of travel.
  • Keep an eye on Sandals’ 7-7-7 Deals. These are 7 qualifying rooms and suites offered at an additional 7% off rack rate promotions – but only for 7 days! The selection usually changes each Wednesday.
  • Score a “free night for staying X nights” promotion. Sandals sometimes offers promotions where if you stay a certain number of nights, you get one free. Free nights can offer one of the highest values of the discounts, especially if you select a higher room category.
  • Travel within 30 days of your wedding anniversary. To get a free anniversary night, first book a minimum of 7 nights in a Club or Butler level room at the Sandals Resort of your choice for travel dates within 30 days before or after your wedding anniversary. Then register your booking and submit proof of wedding date within 14 days of your booking.
  • Book onsite for a return trip! Visit the loyalty desk for special deals on your next Sandals vacation for up to a 10-12% discount. You can also register for Sandals Select Rewards, the loyalty program, to earn points toward future stays.

Keep in mind that Sandals’ promotions can change at any time; always check the Sandals site directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information before booking.

Which Sandals in Jamaica is the Best?

There you have it: all 7 Sandals Jamaica resorts ranked, rated, and broken down so you can stop overthinking and start packing.

My personal top pick is Sandals Dunn’s River — the newest, the most design-forward, and the one I think delivers the strongest overall experience right now. But this list exists precisely because the right answer is different for everyone.

Sandals Negril is for the beach purist. Royal Plantation is for the couple who wants to feel like the only people at the resort. Ochi is for the traveler who wants maximum variety without breaking the bank. And when Montego Bay, Royal Caribbean, and South Coast reopen in late 2026 (November 18 for South Coast, and Decemebr 18 for the other two) as fully redesigned Sandals 2.0 properties, there will be three more compelling reasons to come back to Jamaica.

Whichever resort you choose, the hardest part is over.
