What It’s Really Like to Stay at Marriott Cancun All-Inclusive (Spoiler: I’d Return)

It’s easy to get lost in the sea of all-inclusives in Cancun, but this one caught me off guard (in the best way). The Marriott Cancun is the brand’s first fully developed all-inclusive, and it’s bringing chill vibes, solid food, and no-stress luxury to the scene. Thinking about booking? Here’s the real scoop on what it’s like to stay there — and why I’d go back.

When the chill of winter or the pressures of daily life start to weigh on me, Cancun’s white sand beaches always come to mind. And I’m not alone: this tropical destination is a favorite for travelers worldwide, with direct flights from nearly 40 U.S. cities.

So when Marriott announced it would transform its Cancun property into its first brand-developed all-inclusive resort, I was eager to see how it would stand out in a region full of luxury hotels. After a five-day stay, here’s an honest look at whether the Cancun Marriott lives up to the hype.

• Indoor spaces limited for gathering, outside of restaurants, which can be a factor on rainy days
• Fitness center machines are hit-or-miss – several were non-operational weeks after opening
• Games in the arcade are pay-per-play and some out of order
• No spa onsite – must visit JW Marriott next door

Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort Review

Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort had its grand opening in September 2024 after a $70 million renovation.  Originally debuted in 1990, the Marriott Cancun underwent a nearly year-long renovation that updated all of the guest rooms, added an adults-only pool, installed a kids’ play area including lazy river and water slides, and re-imagined all of the dining options.

The beachfront Marriott Cancun is located midway along Cancun’s hotel zone, between the JW Marriott Cancun and Paradisus Cancun.  The resort is U-shaped and compact, covering only 8 acres.  Most of the six floors of guest rooms overlook the pools and beach, while some have views of the Nichupte Lagoon.

The resort’s new all-inclusive plan includes nine restaurants, snacks, alcohol and soft drinks,  entertainment, in-room minibar, 24-hour room service, and a daily kids’ club for children aged 4-12.  Dining highlights include the Hana Polynesian grill with tiki-style decor and drinks, Casa Madre serving traditional Mexican and Yucatecan fare, and the beachfront Sacbe featuring drinks and light bites. 

Guest rooms all have balconies and either one king and a sofa bed, or two double beds.  The design is clean and modern, with medium-tone wood finishes, white linens, and a classy, tropical vibe.

The resort’s highlights are its water amenities, including the large activity pool with swim-up bar and a busy daily schedule.  A whirlpool rises from the main pool, while an adults-only pool adjoins it with another swim-up bar.  The kids’ zone includes a splash area, lazy river, and two waterslides (fun for adults as well, as I can attest!).

The beach at the Marriott Cancun is the characteristic white sand and turquoise waters found throughout the Riviera Maya, usually calm enough for swimming.  There are fewer resorts in this area, so the beach is not as crowded as farther north in the Hotel Zone.

Location and Things to Do in the Area

The Cancun Marriott is located about midway in the Hotel Zone, along Boulevard Kukulcan at kilometer marker 14.5.  This road spans a “7”-shaped barrier island where Cancun’s best resorts are found, with the Nichupte Lagoon on one side and the oceanfront on the other.  

The resort is located on the beach side of the road between JW Marriott and Paradisus Cancun.

The most popular activities in the area are visiting the aquatic theme park Xel-Ha about an hour and a half away, or taking a day trip to visit the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza located inland 2.5 hours away.  It’s possible to arrange tours through the resort or via an online platform like Viator.

Travelers staying only a few days will probably want to remain on-resort, to maximize the value of the all-inclusive plan.  But for those with longer stays or older kids, a day trip can counter the relatively light entertainment offering at the resort.

Guest Rooms

All of the 450 guest rooms at the Marriott Cancun were part of the 2024 renovation.  Spread over six floors, each has a balcony either with resort view or at least a partial ocean view. 

Bed choices include one king with a sofa bed or two doubles.  Guest rooms are 423-square feet (38 square meters) and have a resort view, partial oceanview, or oceanview vista.  For travelers who need to telework, note that rooms have only a small table and chair and no desk.

Suites feature one king bedroom, larger terrace, and a separate living area, and range from the 505-sq ft Caribbean Suite to the expansive 2067-sq ft Presidential Suite.  There are no swim-out or private pool rooms here, due to the layout of the resort.

One rollaway bed or crib can be added to any of the rooms.  The occupancy maximum for each room is 4 including adults and children.

Room design is clean and modern, with mid-tone wood accents, white linens, and tropical decor.  Wood floors are softened with area rugs on either side of the bed.

Electronics and Outlets

Guests will find two North American-plug electrical outlets as well as four USB outlets on each side of the bed.  This is one of the few hotels I’ve stayed in where I didn’t need a power strip to charge all of my devices!  Individual climate controls for the air conditioning system keep each room nice and cool.  

Room lighting features overhead lights, bedside reading lamps, and ambient lighting. Each room has a 55-inch flat-screen television with limited satellite channels (the English news channels included CNN International and Fox News). Suites with separate living areas may have two televisions.

A service light can be turned on outside the door to signal if you would like your room cleaned or wish not to be disturbed.

Bathrooms

Room bathrooms have a single sink, while suites feature a double sink vanity.  Marble-tiled shower rooms are equipped with rainfall heads as well as a hand shower. 

Complimentary toiletry dispensers with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are affixed in each shower with “this works” brand toiletries.  Each room is also equipped with a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and personal safe.

Minibar

The minibar refrigerator is stocked with sodas, water, and beer. A hot drink station has a filter coffee machine, teabags, and coffee.  Minibars are restocked daily; make specific/additional requests by contacting guest services.

Final Word: Guest Rooms

I stayed in a partial ocean view room on the 5th floor.  While I would have loved an upgrade to a suite because of my status, I was overall pleased with the room and always happy to have a balcony.  The bed was extremely comfortable, and blackout curtains kept the morning sun at bay.  I did miss having a make-up mirror, even a non-lighted one, which seems like it should be standard in hotels of this class.

In the guest rooms you can also hear noise from events in the pool area and hallways, since the corridors have a central atrium open to the floors above and below. To avoid evening event noise, consider asking for a lagoon-side room if you have kids that need to get to sleep early.

Arrival at Marriott Cancun

The closest airport is Cancún International Airport, about 20 minutes away by car.  Transfers can be booked from a car service like USA Transfers, through the resort, or an online platform like Viator.

Upon arriving at the hotel, guests enter through a courtyard with lush plants and outdoor seating.  The entrances to two restaurants are located here — Ono and Press + Start – so the seating can also double as a waiting area.  A porter met us and helped us down the long path to the lobby with our bags.

The lobby Great Room is impressive, part of the first phase of resort renovations completed in 2020.  A large window looks out over the central plaza of the resort with the pools, while a sunken seating area is also home to the lobby bar and its collection of spirits.

Check-in was quick, although I’ve read that other travelers had a wait during holiday weeks and peak times.  I had requested an early check-in through the Marriott app: my room was ready about two hours before regular check-in time.  A deposit was held on my credit card – around $400 –  and we received wristbands which served as keycards.

We were shown to our room by the same porter, who gave us a quick overview of the resort and room tour as he dropped off our bags with us.  This was the start of great service throughout the resort.  

Club Level Amenities and Loyalty Upgrades

Early-check in and late check-out were granted, but I did not receive a room upgrade. (I had gold elite status at that time).  I’ve read stories in travel groups of a few travelers receiving upgrades, but most had at least platinum or titanium elite status.

The hotel doesn’t offer any other amenities or lounges as status perks.  

Booking Marriott Cancun

The best way to book a stay at Cancun Marriott is direct through the Marriott website or Bonvoy app.  By booking direct, you’ll be eligible for promotional offers and Bonvoy loyalty points.  Booking direct helps you receive the most accurate information on your room type and resort amenities.

Marriott Cancun is also available on online travel sites like Expedia and Booking.com.

I booked here using five free night certificates from a credit card offer worth 50,000 points each.  The point redemption was around that amount; I only needed to add a few thousand points from my Bonvoy bank for the higher-valued nights.  (When using free night certificates, you can generally add up to 15,000 additional points per night.)

Marriott Cancun All-Inclusive Dining

Marriott Cancun has 9 full-service specialty restaurants, plus a bakery, coffee shop, food carts, pizza to go, and 24-hour room service.  During my five-night stay, we were able to visit all of the restaurants and food outlets at least once.

I was overall really pleased with the dining here.  Service at each of the restaurants and bars, as well as poolside food carts and wait staff, was great; my only disappointments were the food quality at Mo’s and slow service at Hana (more below).

Reservations

To avoid a long wait, make reservations at Hana, Casa Madre (breakfast and dinner), Ono (both for sushi and teppanyaki) in advance through the AIMB app or the concierge.  The other restaurants, as of my visit, are first-come, first-served.  If you’re traveling with a large group

Cevicheria By La Isla (Seafood) 

This was our first stop, immediately after checking in.  Cevicheria is an open air restaurant and bar located behind the adults-only pool.  Featuring a small menu with fresh fish, shrimp cocktail, different types of ceviche, and cocktails, this was a perfect light lunch and intro to the resort’s restaurants.

Ono (Japanese Teppanyaki and Izakaya)

Ono is two restaurants in one: Japanese teppanyaki and izakaya including sushi. Reservations are required for teppanyaki and recommended for izakaya.  We tried teppanyaki first and returned twice for the izakaya, it was so good!

If you’ve had teppanyaki at other all-inclusives or at restaurants like Benihana, you know what to expect.  If not, you’ll be seated with others around a large grill and a chef will prepare your meal in front of you.  There’s a welcome drink either at the bar or at the table when you arrive.  Then a sushi roll course, soup or salad, fried rice, grilled meat (chicken, beef, shrimp), and dessert.  Just be ready for a little interaction with your table mates and the chef.

For the izakaya menu, we chose 4 sushi items and 3 grilled dishes.  The servers were helpful in suggestions on what to pick and how much to order.  And like I said, we enjoyed the meal so much that we returned later in our stay for another izakaya meal!  

Hana Polynesian Grill

Hana is open both for a breakfast buffet (no reservation needed) and for a la carte dinner, where a reservation is strongly suggested to avoid a wait.  The entrance to Hana is from the lobby, although we managed to sneak in from the patio for breakfast a few times since we were outside claiming chairs by the pool!

The breakfast buffet has an omelette station, scrambled eggs, bacon and ham, a pancake machine and waffles with toppings, as well as some Asian and Mexican breakfast fare.  There’s also cold cuts, cheese, assorted breads, fresh fruit, cereal and yogurt – everything you’d expect to find.  Fresh juices are on the buffet, while coffee and other drinks are brought by the servers.

Dinner at Hana is a la carte, featuring tiki-style cocktails and tropical fare.  We especially liked the big eye ahi poke, smoked beet maui salad, and the sweet potato puree with citrus.  The starter bread was also fantastic!  The Hana menu has steaks – included are tenderloin, rib eye, and strip loin – or porterhouses and tomahawk steaks for an additional charge.

Hana’s menu has vegetarian options too: when I visited, it included heirloom tomato poke, taro vichyssoise, beet salad, as well as many side dishes.

The service when we dined was attentive, although dishes came out of the kitchen slowly.  Everything was prepared and seasoned well, with fresh ingredients and lovely plating.  We considered a second dinner here, but Ono izakaya won out for a return visit.

Casa Madre (Mexican)

Casa Madre was, in my opinion, the best dining experience at Cancun Marriott.  Reservations are required for both breakfast and dinner here.  Located at the front of the resort, the restaurant is open air, but has modern ceiling fan light fixtures to cool the space.  (For especially hot days, try to get a table directly beneath one!)

The restaurant is also themed well – from its thatched roof design to the buffet styling and traditional drinks on offer at the hostess stand, like Mayan hot chocolate.

Breakfast at Casa Madre has even more on its buffet than Hana.  Servers bring coffee and other drinks and guests serve themselves from the buffet.

Made-to-order omelette and quesadilla stations anchor the offerings, but you’ll also find tamales, chilaquiles, assorted breads, Mexican pastries, hot and cold cereals, cheeses, cold cuts, fresh fruits, and drinks like horchata and papaya water.  

Be sure to try Mexican coffee, made with sugar and cinnamon and served in earthenware mugs, as well as grilled plantains!  I didn’t expect to love Casa Madre more than Hana, but it won out for my favorite breakfast at the resort.

The dinner menu at Casa Madre includes traditional Mexican specialties as well as regional Mayan dishes.  We started with frozen horchata and mango mezcalitas along with fresh chips and a trio of salsas, then dug into tomato watermelon salad, ceviche, shrimp agua chile, cochinita pibil (pulled pork) tacos, and fried rib eye. 

After cheesecake and buñuelos (Mexican donuts), we practically had to roll ourselves through the resort and into the elevator!

Casa Madre also has an elevated culinary choice for an additional charge, including a Oaxacan tasting menu, steak, lobster tail, and more.  Vegetarians will also find options here; when we visited the menu included avocado salad, zucchini blossom tamale, huitlacoche empanada (although research this first – it is made from an edible corn fungus), cauliflower tacos, and more. 

We didn’t try Casa Madre until our final night since it was closed one day a week then, or we might have opted for a second dinner there!

Mo’s Burgers & Shakes (American)

Mo’s is open for lunch and dinner, serving signature Mighty Mo burgers and shakes as well as sandwiches, fries, hot dogs, patty melts.  A vegan version of the Might Mo is also on offer. Since you’ll probably have a shake or float with your meal, this won’t count for dessert; so be sure to try one of the pies!

I thought Mo’s was OK.  I was really craving a milkshake, but when we arrived I realized that I didn’t hear any blenders: this is because they’re made from soft serve ice cream.  Only a few of the flavors were available, also.  The burgers were fine, if a little overcooked, but the fries were really good.

Mo’s is a good option for kids, since it is a fun and more casual setting than the other dinner restaurants.

Sacbe Beach Shack (Mexican/light fare)

The chic Sacbe Beach Shack is, I think, one of the most underrated parts of the resort.  Located beneath the activity pool, this beachfront open air bar is Tulum-inspired in both its menu and its design.  While tables and chairs are available, you can also belly up to the bar on a swing, or lounge on one of the couches or poufs while you imbibe.  

The menu here is light: think avocado toast, salads, ceviche tostadas, and surf and turf pizzas, as well as tropical cocktails.  We had salads and ceviche tostadas for a late lunch and I could have eaten here every day of my stay!

Having a restaurant and bar of this quality and vibe, just steps from the beach, was really unique.  In fact, in some of the seats you can eat with your toes in the sand.  You can also order from your beach lounger when the waitstaff makes their rounds.

Service here was outstanding. I had ordered an orange soda that sounded refreshing, which they didn’t have when the server checked.  He realized that they did have it at Mo’s, so he ran there and back to get it for me.

A note on the name: Sacbe is a Mayan word meaning “white road.”  Sacbeob (the plural form) were the raised, paved roads that connected Maya cities in their ancient empire.

Press + Play (Sports Bar)

Press + Play is a sports bar open only in the afternoon until late night.  It has televisions behind the bar and in the table seating area with different games on, as well as arcade games. 

When I visited, many of the games weren’t working, and each game required payment. I think a better setup would be a credit or tokens for a certain number of games per person per stay, and then guests can pay for additional games beyond that. 

The menu at Press + Play was surprisingly good with a wide variety of appetizer-type dishes. With sections titled “Deep-fried 70’s Nostalgia, “Arcade Melt Mania,” “80’s Garden” (salads), and “Stick and Play” (bites on skewers), there are snacks enough to tempt even the healthiest travelers.

The cocktails here were tasty and unexpected: I loved the Final Fantasy cocktail with rum, lime, mint and lavender.  We also had light bites: ceviche, chicken kaarage, and panela cheese skewers.

Another negative here is the lack of beer options: as throughout the resort, they only offer Corona and Modelo in bottles.  Also, the vibe is a little odd and impersonal, but it improved when they turned down the lights.  

Overall, I’d recommend stopping in for late night snacks and a cocktail, especially if you want to catch a game.  The service was good; our server was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions.  We also asked for them to turn on a certain game, which they were happy to do.

Pizzeria by la Isla (Wood Fire Kitchen and Bar)

This small open air restaurant adjoins the activity pool.  It has several tables for seating, but it’s most popular as a quick spot to grab lunch to take to your pool or beach lounger.  

The menu here features an assortment of tasty wood-fired pizzas, from traditional margherita and pepperoni to an inventive summer peach pizza with bacon and blue cheese.  Vegetarian cheese and vegetable pizzas are on offer, as well as a vegan pie.  Gluten free pizza crust can be used by request.

A few types of calzones and sandwiches are also available.  A kids’ menu includes simple pizzas, a club sandwich, cheeseburger, and tuna and cheese sandwich.  

Botanica by La Isla

This open-air restaurant in the central plaza behind the activity pool serves fresh salads and middle eastern dishes like chicken kebabs, hummus, tabbouleh, etc.  This wasn’t open when I visited but the menu looked great, and I’ve heard from other visitors that it is a fantastic lunch option.

Organic & Co. Cafe & Bakery

This coffee shop is located in the main concourse of the hotel, inside the gift shop.  In the mornings it serves specialty hot and cold coffees as well as pastries, avocado and salmon toasts, and sandwiches.  

A refrigerator here holds grab-and-go yogurt and cut fruit, while a warming cabinet holds breakfast sandwiches and burgers, all included with the all-inclusive meal plan. In the afternoon, fruits, cheese plates, parfaits and other desserts like soft serve ice cream are on offer.

If you get up early for beach walks, this is the perfect stop for an iced coffee before breakfast.

Note that there is also a separate refrigerator here with drinks and other items that aren’t included, but it’s clearly labeled.

750 Pizzeria

Also located in the gift shop area, this pizza counter serves several types of takeaway pizzas for lunch, dinner, and late evening snacks based an abbreviated menu from Pizzeria by Isla. Gluten free crust is available by request.

Bars at Marriott Cancun

The resort features two swim-up bars, one each in the main activity pool and adults-only pool.  When I visited, the activity pool bar was busy with children playing on the bar and also ordering their own (nonalcoholic) drinks, so the adult pool bar was a welcome amenity.

The activity pool bar doesn’t have seating, but rather a ledge along the outer edge of the pool for resting your arms.  The adult pool has built-in seating around two sides, and an infinity edge that lets you overlook the beach.

Bartenders at both were friendly and quick to make orders, and the pina coladas at the adult pool bar were especially Instagrammable.

The Greatroom Lobby Bar is open in the late afternoon and evening.  The mixology menu here features local flavors and regional ingredients.  In the evenings, there is usually a musical act or activity (like a casino night) to add to the ambiance.

Cocktails are also served at the Sacbe Beach Shack, Hana (tiki-inspired drinks), the Sports Bar, and other restaurants.

Room Service

24-hour in-room dining is included in the all-inclusive plan at Marriott Cancun.  Find the menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the AIMB app, as well as desserts and kids menu.

A shorter “late night dining” menu is available from 10 pm – 6:30 am for late night cravings.

To order, call guest services from your room phone.  It took about half an hour when we ordered room service for lunch one day.

Pools at Marriott Cancun

Marriott Cancun’s pools and aquatic features are its best amenities.  When I visited, the pools were open from 7AM – 8PM, with the exception of the children’s pool that opened from 9AM – 5PM.  

Main Activity Pool

The large main activity pool is family-friendly and has a thatched shade structure that curves around the pool on the ocean side.  Some other chairs have individual umbrellas, and cabanas are available for rental.  (Inquire at the concierge.) 

People begin reserving chairs early, as soon as towels are available (and sometimes before, by leaving personal items on chairs).  We usually claimed chairs on our way to breakfast, then headed out to the pool immediately after.  I recommend bringing towel clips to help claim your chair and also leaving something small like a book or bag with your sunscreen. 

Throughout the day activities are scheduled in one section of the main pool including aquabike classes, water aerobics, water polo, water basketball and more. Staff here also serve as DJs, so it can be quite a lively scene.

A heated jacuzzi whirlpool is located on the beach side of the main pool and was open to all ages.

Kids’ swim rings (bring your own or purchase at the gift shop) were allowed in the main pool when I visited, as well as many adults had inflatable pool chairs like these.  The swim-up bar has beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks.

Note that the main activity pool is not heated, but the smaller adult pool is.

Pool and beach towels are available at the tour desk next to the adult pool.  Pick them up here, and return them to the towel bins in the pool area throughout the day. A card or check-out isn’t required.

Adults-Only Pool

The adjoining smaller adult pool is a welcome oasis compared to the main pool!  I loved the cocktails here and sitting at the bar or perching at the infinity edge of the pool overlooking the beach.  

The bartenders at both bars were attentive and friendly, but the extra garnish on drinks from the adult pool bar made for the best photos.  The adult bar is in the shade until early afternoon, while the main pool bar faces the other direction and gets sun in the morning.  

The adult pool has dedicated loungers as well as rental beds. When I visited, there were enough for all of the guests. If you’re looking for a quiet area to read or relax, there are sun decks with loungers on either side of the pool area with views of the beach.

Kids’ Water Area

The resort also features a kids’ play area with a small children’s pool, splash zone, a lazy river, and two waterslides.  The lazy river has water features that dump and spray water, so it’s not necessarily a leisurely lazy ride, but it is fun!  Smaller kids were permitted to ride in the same inner tube with an adult when I visited.

The water slides have a height requirement of 48 inches.  The enclosed blue slide is faster, while the green one is slower.  Rashguards aren’t permitted for safety reasons.

Beach at Marriott Cancun

Marriott Cancun is located in the middle of the Cancun hotel zone, with a soft white sand beach and turquoise waters.  While sargassum seaweed can be an issue in Cancun during the summer season, the beach here is cleaned daily.  The water is usually calm enough for swimming during the summer months.  

Before swimming, check with the beach lifeguards on duty to ask about the surf conditions for the day.  It’s always best to swim with a buddy, too.

Beach loungers are available as well as rental cabanas.  Beachside servers offer drink service, or you can pop into the Sacbe Beach Shack restaurant located directly on the beach.

Beach activities are scheduled during the day, such as beach volleyball, soccer, and flag football.

Marriott Cancun also has a unique beach feature: a protected area for sea turtle eggs!  In Mexico, after female turtles have laid and buried their eggs, conservation groups relocate the nests to save them from predators and poachers.  The resort has an enclosed area with each nest labeled with the type of turtle and date.  When the eggs hatch, guests can help release the baby turtles at sunset. 

Keep in mind that all beaches in Mexico are public, so you might occasionally encounter vendors selling items like jewelry or beach bags.

Daily Activities & Entertainment

The AIMB app and televisions in the lobby broadcast the schedules for daytime activities, fitness, and entertainment.  While the activity pool and Botanik Terrace feature a busy schedule of classes, sports, and activities throughout the day, the evening entertainment offerings are light.  

The Great Room Lobby or the outdoor plaza features either a musical act, band, or activity like casino night every evening.  Music groups might also play in Casa Madre and Atrio: check the night programs schedule in the app.

I’m not really into shows at resorts, but I did feel like something was missing in the evenings here.  Of course, the famous Coco Bongo Club is just an Uber ride away, if you need a night out during your stay!

Kids’ CAMP Club

Kids aged 4-12 can visit the CAMP Club from 9:30AM – 7PM. 

Daily activities include crafts, dance, beach walks, music, and an outdoor play zone with zipline and climbing wall.  Parents are asked to remain on-resort and bring kids’ passports to register on the first day they visit the club.

Fitness Center and Spa

The resort’s new fitness center has cardio and weight machines as well as a studio for Pilates and yoga.  Daily classes are offered at the fitness center and other locations in the resort, including morning yoga, cross training, HIIT, dance lessons, and tabata. 

I recommend visiting the fitness center to use the machines in the morning or evening, since it’s in full sun through the windows in the afternoon.

New pickleball courts also opened in December!  This was after my visit so I don’t have the details on how to schedule, but paddles and balls are available from the front desk.

The resort doesn’t have an on-site spa, but guests can book spa appointments at the JW Marriott next door. Massage services can be arranged at the beach cabanas, however, for an additional fee.

Service and Staff at Marriott Cancun

The service at Marriott Cancun was fantastic from start to finish.  While most newly-opened resorts have some kinks to work out, the level of service I experienced remained friendly, attentive, and professional throughout my stay.

I can’t say enough good things about everyone here including porters, bartenders, housekeeping, restaurant and poolside servers, and front desk staff.

Tipping

While many all-inclusive resorts advertise that tips are included, Cancun is a destination that has a culture of tipping.  There didn’t seem to be an expectation, but the staff was honestly so helpful and friendly here that I wanted to tip.

We had some Mexican pesos from another recent trip and also brought US dollars.  I recommend having singles for tipping at bars and for pool or beach service, and some fives and tens for tipping in the restaurants. 

As a couple, we spent around $25-35 in tips per day.

Other Guest Needs

The resort has a lobby gift shop that sells souvenirs as well as basic necessities like sunscreen, over-the-counter medications, diapers, baby wipes, and more. They also had a few clothing items including bathing suits and cover-ups.

Of course, anything sold on-resort will likely have a much higher cost than at home and the selection is quite limited. Don’t forget to bring swim diapers, which are required in the pools for kids who aren’t potty trained.

For those traveling with littles, high chairs are available in restaurants. It’s possible to request a crib before arrival, but during peak times the resort might not have enough to meet the demand. In some cases the concierge has helped guests secure a rental from an off-resort service. I would bring your own crib sheet, if possible.

You can also rent items and have them delivered like a pack-and-play, stroller, etc. BabyQuip rents gear and supplies which you can arrange to have delivered to the resort. You can also order items like diapers from a retailer like Wal-Mart that offers delivery – check with the concierge for an up-to-date suggestion of retailers.

Tours and Activities

An activities desk next to the adult pool can arrange off-site tours or activities on site like parasailing. This is also the spot to pick up pool and beach towels every day, so you can check out what they have on offer like cenote and ruins tours.
